Walk on, Walk oooonnnn... I was right (and that doesn't happen very often). Liverpool beat Spurs 2-0 at Anfield last night and won me £255 for my £150 buy of their supremacy at 0.3. Dirk Kuyt popped up with both goals meaning that shirt supremacy made up a whopping 36 (18 x 2) and netted me another £135 for my £5 buy at 9.
I didn't actually watch the second half of the game as I was glued to my desk at home. Instead I kept an eye on the game using LiveLogic - you don't have to keep pressing the F5 button! As soon as the whistle went I decided to invest some of my winnings on my Cheltenham Festival ante-post portfolio. Forpadydeplasterer looks an each way bet to nothing in the Champion Chase at 10/1 and he wears red too, just like Liverpool… it’s an omen!
Friday 22nd January
I only fancied one horse all day and that was Charlie Smirke in Lingfield’s 3.45pm contest. My £10 buy at 23 on the index looked sure to return the maximum profit when Shane Kelly went a length clear on my selection inside the furlong, but he was reeled in late on. A certain £270 win became a £20 win in a handful of strides… once again, all-weather racing proved my undoing. By the way, how ironic that the winner of the race in question was called ‘Expensive Problem’!
Saturday 23rd January
I went to Ascot for the Victor Chandler Chase which was in fact my first visit to a racecourse in 2010. Things got off to a frighteningly good start when my £10 buy of Call Me A Legend at 19 on the index returned the maximum £310 profit in the opener. The well fancied favourite Raindeer Dippin fell at the very first fence which paved the way for the perfect start to the day. To make things even better, I even managed to tip the 13/2 winner up to a few mates.
Sadly, my tipping and punting fell away and the same bunch of mates were less than impressed – it suddenly became more of a case of ‘Call Me An 'Arsehole'’ rather than a 'Legend'. Barwell Bridge wasn’t good enough to beat Advisor in the next, while Whiteoak finished out of the frame in the 2.05pm (costing me £290).
However, there was still Qoazak in the 3.20pm! Sadly, the banker of the day failed to make the frame which was a shame as I had told Sporting Index's Karl ‘The Chief’ Suntay and a few of his clients that it was a steering job. It was backed from 3/1 into 15/8 and trailed in sixth.
In return for my red hot information, I was given Gargano (a Mark Johnston flying machine) in Lingfield's 4.40pm. I bought £10 at 24 and then the money came flooding in forcing it into 11/8 from an opening show of 2/1. Well, the rest is history and it bolted in by a nose! A badly needed £260 was restored to the kitty and I walked away from Ascot (it could so easily have been a crawl).
Sunday 24th January
I watched the Irish Champion Hurdle and was really annoyed with myself for not selling Celestial Halo on the index. Paul Nicholls’ charge ran pretty flat at Cheltenham last time and I wasn’t sure that the bottomless ground was going to suit. Anyway, he finished fourth to Solwhit and I would have made the maximum… no point worrying about it though, I keep saying to myself that if I had sold him he would have dotted up.
Sadly, I did have a bet later on and a terrible one at that. I stepped in and bought the New York Jets’ supremacy for £20 at 3 in-running against the Indianapolis Colts just before the break. They had opened up an eleven point lead and I couldn’t see any reason why they wouldn’t go on and cement their place at the Super Bowl.
Enter Payton Manning. Within minutes of placing the bet, the master quarter-back had reduced the deficit to just four points. As the second half unfolded, it was soon apparent that I was on the wrong team. The colts scored 24 unanswered points and cost me £320. I hate American Football… although I will be having a couple of bets on the big one in a couple of week’s time. I will be backing Payton Manning to be MVP and I will be buying Pierre Garcon’s receiving yards!
Monday 25th January
A great looking card at Fontwell and another missed winner. I was seconds away from selling Trick Trickster over Chamirey in the match bet in the opener but opted not to – another poor decision. My only bet was Aldertune in the staying handicap hurdle at 3.20pm and he was beaten a slow motion neck. My frustration is growing…
Tuesday 26th January
Spent the day at ICE (The Betting Show) which was pretty awful if truth be told. It’s full of people trying to sell fruit machines and there are hundreds of promotional staff who look like (and probably are) Lithuanian hookers. One was wearing a swimming costume and had a bigger arse than me!
I did get home early for a change, so decided to have a right old crack on the football. I’ll tell you the good bits first… I sold £100 of goals in the Liverpool v Wolves game at 2.4 and made £240. I sold £100 of goals in the Tottenham v Fulham game at 2.7 and made another £70. I also sold £100 of goals in the Bolton v Burnley game at 2.6 and trousered £160. That’s £470 profit from 3 winning Premiership bets.
Now, the two not so good bets… I sold £100 of goals in the Doncaster v Middlesboro game at 2.3 - it finished 1-4 and I lost £270. I also had the same bet in the Nottingham Forest v QPR game and lost another £250. All that hard work and all those winners and I was still £50 down on the night. I’m sticking to Premiership football from now on!
Wednesday 27th January
The second leg of the Battle of Manchester and I’ve got sucked into buying bookings at 66. I’ve got Tevez and Neville penciled in for 25 points each anyway, so I only need to find another 15 points from somewhere. Come on You Reds!!! …and yellows!!!
