Eurovision Song Contest - Betting Sting
Eurovision song contest betting is, for those in the know, one of the real punting gems of the year. A competition that is taken as half singing contest half comedy show in the UK is considered the height of sophistication and national pride on the continent. Azerbaijan are the subject of big swings in recent weeks having traded at 4/1 at extrabet and are now in to 13/8. This entry is of course hugely bolstered by the fact that as an ex-Soviet state they will pick up a plethora of votes but also that it is sung by pretty lady, with a good voice, singing a good song. However terrible rehearsals and reports of a confidence crisis from the camp might be coming at exactly the wrong time. Elsewhere the sting has been on Germany who trade at 4/1 from 5/1 a few days ago. Amazingly for Germans though, this song may be considered too ‘cool’ to win.
Eurovision winners have, as eluded to before, very much been shared between ex-Soviet states however the field may have a better chance this year and there are many who fancy Israel (11/1). The entry is sung by an already established home-grown artist and they have polled very well on the Eurovision fan sites. Elsewhere show insiders have been very impressed with Armenia’s (9/1) efforts and the fact that they have a peach tree growing up through the stage for their performance is a massive plus. Why? Well you got to have a gimmick in this game.
extrabet’s Chris Shillington gives the view from the betting floor ...
