Premier League - Half Time Report

Well it’s just about half term for the Premier League with 18 games out of 38 played by most. Here at extrabet our Total Season Points spread bet market is the most popular long term football market. In short it asks you ‘How many points will each team score in total over the season?’

Currently Chelsea top the pile trading at 84.5-86 points for the season with Man United at 79.5-81. However Man United are only 4 points behind in the table and have a tradition of outperforming Chelsea in the 2nd half of the season of late. Predictably we have seen punters looking to buy their points on the back of this. Also add into the mix that they do not have a single African player on the squad who will be missing for January’s African Nations Cup compared to Chelsea’s 4.

Elsewhere Spurs and Aston Villa have shaken the top of the table so far this season and the race for 4th is once again of huge interest. Over the last 5 seasons an average of 69 points where required to get 4th spot and even with a poor start Liverpool trade at 67-68.5 to Spurs’ 66-67.5 and Villa’s 65-66.5. Liverpool are however 8 points behind the Villains and counting.

At the other end of the table the new 40 is 36 points as over the last 5 seasons an average of 36 would have kept a team safe. Portsmouth and Burnley trade at 34-35.5 with Hull struggling at 32-33.5. West Ham are the probably the biggest team in the relegation mire and at 38.5-40 they are by no means safe. With 51 and 49 Total Points in the last 2 seasons you’d have thought that safety would be a given but with only 15 points from 18 games there may be trouble ahead.

Finally on the sports spread betting front you have to consider Birmingham’s case. 1 point ahead of Liverpool at the half way stage and they trade at 21 points below them on the Season Points stakes at extrabet. With. 28 points from 18 games and a price of 46.4-48 they could be your winter wallet warmer. However

“Birmingham seem about as fashionable as George Bush commemorative mugs at the moment as we can’t find a buyers of their season points at any price. Elsewhere they are queuing up round the block to get with West Ham” says extrabet’s Chris Shillington.
